# South Korea is experiencing its final legal summer season for dog meat before a nationwide ban takes effect in February. The practice, traditionally associated with the hottest days of summer, has declined sharply as attitudes towards animal welfare change and pet ownership increases. At Seoul’s Moran Market, once a major dog-meat hub, many restaurants have switched to alternatives such as black-goat stew. A 2024 survey found more than 80-percent supported the ban. The new law will prohibit breeding, slaughtering, selling and distributing dogs for human consumption.
