Mkambati Reserve declared global wetland site

# The Mkambati Nature Reserve in Lusikisiki, Eastern Cape, has been declared South Africa’s newest Wetland of International Importance under the Ramsar Convention. Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment deputy minister Narend Singh says the designation recognises its unique ecological, cultural and socio-economic value. The site, located on the Wild Coast, hosts rare wetlands, estuaries and clean river systems. Officials say the listing highlights its global conservation importance, as wetlands face increasing threats from pollution and development, requiring urgent protection and sustainable management.
