WTO criticises SA, India and Turkey for blocking the Investment Facilitation for Development Agreement

# The World Trade Organisation’s director, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has criticised South Africa, India and Turkey for blocking the Investment Facilitation for Development Agreement. This is a framework that provides global benchmarks to improve the investment and business climate. South Africa’s opposition stems from a 2019 joint position paper with India, which called for no new items to be added to the WTO agenda before the organisation commits to returning to the Doha round of trade negotiations. Okonjo-Iweala says the agreement will be good for poor countries.
