# Vergelegen Wine Estate in Somerset West, Cape Town, welcomed 137 Nguni calves this season, with eight more still due. The herd now exceeds 450 animals. The new arrivals include pure Ngunis and Nguni/Angus crosses. The crosses show impressive size from their Angus heritage. The estate introduced Angus in 2024 to combine Nguni hardiness with Angus growth. Spokesperson Judy Bryant says Nguni cattle were introduced in 2001. She says the breed is favoured for its colourful hides and ability to thrive in harsh conditions.
