Stellenbosch university to offer groundbreaking Master’s degree on trauma and repair

# Stellenbosch University will launch South Africa’s first master’s programme in Violent Histories and Repair in January 2026. Offered through the University’s Centre for the Study of the Afterlife of Violence and the Reparative Quest, the Master of Philosophy equips students to study the transgenerational impact of genocide, slavery, colonial-era violence, and apartheid, while exploring repair and peacebuilding. Professor Pumla Gobodo-Madikizela from the University says it examines psychosocial processes of repair to heal violent pasts.
