South African becomes Africa’s first dual-qualified paediatric and reconstructive surgeon

# South African surgeon Kirthi Ramdhani has become the first doctor in Africa to qualify in both paediatric surgery and plastic and reconstructive surgery. The 38-year-old from Tongaat, KwaZulu-Natal, reached the milestone after completing her second specialist qualification. Her achievement marks a significant milestone for specialised healthcare on the continent. Based at Tygerberg Hospital and Stellenbosch University, Ramdhani says combining both disciplines will improve treatment for children with complex congenital conditions, burns and traumatic injuries.
