NSPCA calls for end to live animal sea exports

# The National Council of SPCAs welcomes a position statement by the South African Veterinary Association opposing the export of live animals by sea for slaughter. NSPCA spokesperson Samanta Stelli says the practice is inherently cruel and cannot be made humane through regulation, citing risks such as heat stress, disease and confinement. She says draft regulations from the Department of Agriculture are inadequate and lack enforcement and is calling for an end to live animal sea exports in South Africa.
