# Deputy president Paul Mashatile says the government will provide stronger support for farmers and strengthen food security. Speaking at the NAMPO Cape 2025 in the Overberg in the Western Cape, Mashatile highlighted challenges such as water shortages, lack of funding and inadequate support for emerging farmers. He also confirmed ongoing talks with the US over tariffs on South African exports and said the government is working to diversify markets to China, Russia, India, and the Middle East:
