# Nobel Peace laureate, Malala Yousafzai, has called on South Africa to stand with Afghan women and girls facing what she described as “gender apartheid” under the Pakistani Taliban rule. She was among the speakers at the National Women’s Day celebrations in Pretoria yesterday. Yousafzai was shot in the head by the Taliban in October 2012 for her gender activism. Yousafzai says the ruling Taliban has outlawed the education of girls and has made it legal for wives to be beaten by their husbands:
