# Education activist Hendrick Makaneta has congratulated doctor Thobeka Ntini-Makununika, a former domestic worker, who recently earned her PhD in Philosophy from the University of KwaZulu-Natal. The 32-year-old’s thesis is titled “Unravelling the dynamics of power in employer-domestic worker relations in contemporary South Africa”. Makaneta says Ntini-Makununika’s journey is inspiring, having worked part-time as a domestic worker from the age of 13 while pursuing her education:
