# Food and Allied Workers Union members in the sugar manufacturing and refining industry have resumed strike action, following a deadlock in wage negotiations. Hundreds of workers have stayed away from their posts at mills and related operations, mainly in KwaZulu-Natal and other sugar-growing areas. FAWU, the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union and the United Association of South Africa are seeking a 13-percent across-the-board salary increase and one-thousand-500-rand housing allowance amongst other demands. FAWU’s Dominique Martin says employers have tabled an offer of 5.4-percent:
