# CapeNature welcomes the sentencing of a Cape Town couple convicted of multiple wildlife offences involving the unlawful keeping, possession and transport of reptiles. Zirkie Bernardus Jansen and Valerie Gayle Simpson-Jansen were each fined 40-thousand-rand or sentenced to 18-months’ imprisonment after being convicted on seven charges. The offences involved 95 reptiles, including geckos and ball pythons, kept and transported without the required permits. CapeNature’s Petro van Rhyn says the sentence sends a strong message that wildlife crime will not be tolerated.
