# The wildfire in the Silvermine section of Table Mountain National Park on Sunday intensified significantly due to a sudden shift in wind direction and increased wind speeds. Last night residents of a retirement village in Noordhoek were evacuated as a precaution. The fire began on Friday in the Upper Tokai area and was largely contained until Sunday late morning. It then started actively spreading toward Tokai, Zwaanswyk, Noordhoek and Clovelly. Ou Kaapse Weg on Sunday was closed in both directions between Steenberg and Sun Valley due to poor visibility caused by thick smoke.
