# Parliament’s Select Committee on Economic Development and Trade says it is concerned at the impending 30-percent tariff imposed by the US government on South African exports. This comes into effect on the first of August. Committee chairperson, Sonja Boshoff, says the tariff undermines the historical US–SA trade cooperation, and poses a serious threat to strategic sectors such as citrus, macadamia, automotive components, steel, and aluminium. The country’s citrus industry alone supports more than 35-thousand jobs and contributes over 38-billion-rand annually to the economy.
