# Small-scale fishing cooperatives and businesses on the Cape West Coast are receiving a boost through a SANParks skills development initiative. Twenty fishermen from Saldanha Bay and surrounding communities have completed training in skippers’ competency and business planning. SANParks spokesperson JP Louw says the programme supports sustainable livelihoods under its Vision 2040 programme. SANParks has also supplied fishing equipment and is helping local businesses strengthen capacity, access procurement opportunities and expand their participation in the fishing value chain.
