# According to a University of Cape Town study, significant emissions cuts are possible at Sasol’s Secunda coal-to-liquids complex in Mpumalanga without an abrupt shutdown. The study shows that renewable energy and improved efficiency could cut emissions by about 26-percent by 2030, while deeper reductions could come from green hydrogen, electrification and carbon capture. The university says the government needs a clear transition plan to protect jobs, energy security and industry while reducing emissions.
