# The Western Cape government has raised concerns that the controversial National Health Insurance could impact the quality of healthcare and resources in the province. Health MEC Mireille Wenger has highlighted uncertainties regarding costs, patients’ ability to choose a healthcare provider, and the role of provincial health departments. National Health Department’s spokesperson, Foster Mohale, told News24 that provinces would retain control over most state hospitals, with only central hospitals transitioning to national government management. He added that the NHI Fund would accredit and contract all state hospitals.
