TUT is celebrating centennial honorary alum Tlou Cholo’s legacy

# With it being Human Rights Month, the Tshwane University of Technology is celebrating honorary alumnus, doctor Tlou Cholo, who will turn 100 in October this year. A freedom stalwart, Cholo is probably the only surviving veteran from uMkhonto weSizwe’s Luthuli Detachment era. He was incarcerated on Robben Island for 16 years for his role in the emancipation of South Africans. In 2018, TUT conferred an honorary doctorate on the former trade unionist. TUT says Cholo’s tenacity and self-sacrifice in the struggle against apartheid is something to be admired.
