# Researchers from Stellenbosch University and China have successfully tested an ultra-secure quantum satellite communication link. They sent an image of the Great Wall of China 12-thousand-900 kilometres from Beijing to Stellenbosch. This groundbreaking achievement marks the longest quantum satellite link ever established, and the first in the southern hemisphere. The project aims to develop unbreakable encryption techniques to secure data against potential quantum computing threats. The success highlights South Africa’s growing role in the global quantum technology ecosystem.
