# Norwegian company Scatec ASA has secured preferred bidder status for a two-billion-rand battery energy storage project in South Africa, as part of the country’s green energy transition. The renewable energy company was named the preferred bidder for the Haru battery energy storage project under the third bid window of the independent power producer procurement programme. Under a 15-year agreement, Scatec will provide storage capacity to the National Transmission Company of South Africa to help stabilise the power grid. The project will be located in the Free State.
