SAPS cancels R360-million tender amid criminal probe against businessman Vusimuzi ‘Cat’ Matlala

# The South African Police Service has cancelled a 360-million-rand health services contract awarded to businessman Vusimuzi ‘Cat’ Matlala, days before a criminal investigation into the deal commence. News24 reports an internal audit revealed that Matlala’s company, Medicare 24 Tshwane District, should not have advanced past the initial procurement phase. Matlala, already facing charges of attempted murder and conspiracy in a separate case, has threatened legal action against Police commissioner Fannie Masemola over the cancellation.
