# Minister in the Presidency, Khumbudzo Ntshavheni, says the South African National Defence Force was deployed to Durban in KwaZulu-Natal and in Johannesburg, Gauteng, overnight, in the aftermath of the anti-illegal immigration protests. Police arrested three suspects in Hillbrow after they allegedly opened fire on a splinter group of protesters. In Durban, police contained small and sporadic incidents of looting. Ntshavheni says the SANDF deployment was to increase safety and security measures, as well as provide reinforcement for the police:
