Rooibos industry moves to protect South Africa’s iconic tea as global demand grows

# The South African Rooibos Council says protecting the origin of Rooibos is becoming increasingly important as global demand for the product grows. According to the council, expanding export opportunities, including improved access to the Chinese market, make it vital to safeguard the Rooibos name and ensure consumers receive an authentic South African product. The council’s Dawie de Villiers says protecting its origin will help preserve quality, support local jobs and ensure the economic benefits continue to flow to South African producers.
