Robot-assisted surgery is stressing surgeons

# A new Japanese study has found that robot-assisted surgery can place significant physical and mental stress on surgeons. Researchers from Chiba University monitored seven experienced urologists during live operations, measuring brain activity, muscle tension and heart function. They found higher stress levels were linked to increased brain activity, shoulder muscle strain, faster heart rates and reduced heart rate variability. Scientists say the findings could improve surgical training, operating room design and surgeon well-being. They believe the approach may also enhance patient safety by identifying high-stress moments during robotic procedures.
