# President Cyril Ramaphosa says South Africa has been consistent in its calls for United Nations Security Council reform and for it to better reflect global realities. The president is attending the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York this week. In his weekly newsletter, Ramaphosa says the current composition of the council and its decisions undermine the spirit of global cooperation. He says efforts at reform, including proposals to expand the permanent membership of the council, have stalled and must be reinvigorated.
