Polihali tunnel construction resumes as concerns grow over Lesotho Water Project Phase II

# Work on the Polihali transfer tunnel has resumed after contractor Kopano Ke Matla’s pollution-related suspension was lifted. This follows acceptance of its remedial plan by the Lesotho Highlands Development Authority. However, delays, cost overruns, and management issues in the broader Lesotho Highlands Water Project Phase II drew scrutiny in Parliament. Estimated costs have ballooned from eight-billion-rand to 53.3-billion-rand. Officials now call for an acceleration plan and tighter oversight, as water delivery is rescheduled for August 2028.
