# With today being Nelson Mandela International Day, University of Pretoria’s vice-chancellor, professor Francis Petersen, is calling on everyone to join the institution in standing up against student hunger and financial exclusion. This year’s theme is, It’s still in our hands to combat poverty and inequity. Petersen says he believes former president Nelson Mandela would be proud of the work that the University does every July as part of the #UPGivingMatters campaign. The campaign helps fight hunger and financial hardship among students.
