# The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa says it regards the retrenchments by Ford Motor Company SA as an attack on the working class. The company plans to cut at least 470 jobs at its Pretoria and Eastern Cape plants in a bid to respond to evolving market demands. Numsa’s spokesperson, Phakamile Hlubi-Majola, says government must use its power not to allow companies that are beneficiaries of its incentives to retrench workers at a whim:
