# The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa has confirmed that Mercedes-Benz South Africa has implemented a scheduled one-month lay-off at its East London plant, which started from 24 June to 30 July. NUMSA spokesperson Phakamile Hlubi-Majola says this is part of annual production adjustments, not linked to US tariffs under the African Growth and Opportunity Act. Workers will receive wages and attend training during the shutdown:
