# Minister of Forestry, Fisheries, and the Environment, Dion George, says the South African Plastics Pact’s pioneering success inspires the government to refine policies and accelerate the country’s leadership in the global circular economy. The pact, led by GreenCape, unites 50 leading organisations, representing 35-percent of the country’s plastic economy. Minister George says the pact has achieved significant progress towards its 2025 goals, reducing plastic straws by 91-percent, achieving a 45-percent output recycling rate, and increasing average recycled content in packaging to 18-percent.
