# South Africa’s largest importer of chicken and chilled meats, Merlog Foods, welcomes the partial lifting of the ban on poultry imports from Brazil, effective from tomorrow. The Department of Agriculture will allow imports from all Brazilian states except Rio Grande do Sul, where bird flu was detected. The company’s general manager, Georg Southey, says Brazil supplies 95-percent of the mechanically deboned meat used in staples like polony and sausages, vital for school feeding and low-income families.
