# Cape Town mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis has called for the port of Cape Town to be included in a national initiative exploring private sector investment in South Africa’s ports and rail networks. Transport minister Barbara Creecy recently confirmed that her department would issue requests for information on private sector participation. Hill-Lewis emphasised the need for urgent private investment to improve the port’s infrastructure and international competitiveness. He urged the minister to prioritise Cape Town in the requests for information process.
