# Deputy president Paul Mashatile says attacking a police officer is an attack on the State itself, and it will be met with the full might of the law. He addressed the annual South African Police Service Commemoration Day in Pretoria on Sunday. Twenty-seven police officers lost their lives in the line of duty during the 2024/2025 financial year. A total of 66 police officers were killed in just two years. Mashatile says the government is intensifying efforts to ensure the safety of officers:
