Government urged to focus on defining the role of gas in the economy

# The Energy Council of South Africa is urging government to focus its efforts on defining the role of gas in the economy over the next ten years. The draft Integrated Resource Plan of 2023 indicates that the current electricity shortfall in the country can be overcome, only by ensuring that seven-thousand-220-megawatts of new gas-to-power capacity is installed. Energy Council of SA CEO, James Mackay, says the affordability of industrial gas demand would require the country to secure about 100 petajoules per year of gas.
