# Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment Deputy minister Narend Singh has called for stronger cooperation between prosecutors, police and environmental officials to combat illegal fishing and other environmental crimes. Speaking at the opening of a two-day enforcement training programme in KwaZulu-Natal, Singh said coordinated investigations and successful prosecutions are essential to protecting South Africa’s marine resources. He also highlighted recent joint operations that led to arrests, fines and the confiscation of illegally caught fish, rock lobster and gillnets.
