# Nepal is planning to lower the water levels of four high-altitude glacial lakes after a recent disaster that killed more than one-thousand-400 people and left more than five-thousand missing. Lakes Thulagi, Lower Barun, Lumding Tsho and Hongu Two are considered among Nepal’s most dangerous. The 50-million-dollar project will use controlled drainage to reduce the risk of the lakes bursting their natural dams and flooding communities downstream. Work will also include sensors and flood-warning systems, with the project expected to take up to six years.
