First two wind farms of Bid Window 5 finally feeding power to grid

# Two Karoo-based wind farms, Rietkloof and Brandvalley, have started contributing power to South Africa’s grid. They are the first two wind farms of round five of government’s renewable energy public procurement programme to become operational. The farms span a combined 16-thousand-200 hectares, and each have 32 wind turbines with a combined capacity of 288 MegaWatt. The energy produced will be enough for 367-thousand households per year. Bid Window 5 was launched in 2021 and was the country’s most cost-competitive procurement round with more that 100 bids submitted.
