# The Freedom Front Plus has welcomed the High Court in Pretoria’s setting aside of Trade, Industry and Competition minister Parks Tau’s decision to promulgate the Legal Sector Black Economic Empowerment Code. Spokesperson Jaco Mulder says this reinforces the principle that ministers must independently consider legal requirements and justify significant departures from general BEE codes. He says the ruling doesn’t declare BEE illegal, but highlights the need for ministers to properly exercise their statutory powers:
