# The Electricity and Energy deputy minister, Samantha Graham-Maré, has urged owners of large public and private buildings to urgently register for energy performance certificates by 7 December. The certificates indicate a building’s energy efficiency and help reduce costs and greenhouse gas emissions. Since 2020, nearly eight-thousand buildings have been registered, with Gauteng leading and Northern Cape the lowest. Graham-Maré warns that the deadline will not be extended, and non-compliance will not be tolerated:
