Deputy minister Morolong says mining must be used as a catalyst for structural transformation

# Deputy minister in the Presidency, Kenny Morolong, says there is an urgent need to industrialise the economy, deepen localisation and strengthen domestic backward linkages, especially in the mining value chain. The mining industry remains a cornerstone of the South African economy, contributing over six-percent to the country’s nominal gross domestic product in 2024–2025. Morolong says mining must become the foundation on which the country builds a diversified and industrialised economy. He has called for mining to be used as a catalyst for structural transformation.
