# The Department of Forestry, Fisheries, and the Environment says climate change is a threat multiplier, but it is also an opportunity to build fairer, stronger, more resilient societies. One of the priorities of South Africa’s G20 Presidency agenda is the unlocking of climate finance. Last year, the government established the Climate Change Response Fund to counter the severe effects of global warming. The department’s Maesela Kekana says climate action is necessary on all fronts: ambitious mitigation to reduce impacts, ambitious adaptation, and measures to address loss and damage.
