# The DA has paid tribute to former South African ambassador and struggle stalwart, doctor Franklin Sonn, lauding him for the contribution he has made to the country. He died in Cape Town on Saturday after a short illness at the age of 86. Sonn served as democratic South Africa’s first ambassador to the United States from 1995 to 1998. The DA’s Karabo Khakhau says he was a distinguished leader who championed justice, excellence and nation-building:
