# Union federation Cosatu says the landmark wage agreement between the National Union of Mineworkers and Gold Fields’ South Deep Mine will cushion employees over the next five years. The multi-year agreement includes adjustments made to the housing allowance, medical incapacity benefit, and funeral benefit. Gold Fields has also approved a discretionary, one-off cash incentive of 50-thousand-rand for permanent and fixed-term employees. Cosatu’s Nonzuzo Dlamini says the agreement provides long-term certainty for workers in a sluggish economy:
