Cape Town mayor welcomes ruling declaring Public Procurement Act invalid

# Cape Town mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis says the Constitutional Court ruling invalidating the Public Procurement Act, protects local and provincial governments’ right to make their own procurement decisions. This follows the municipality’s challenge to the legislation, arguing the law was passed unlawfully, without enough public input. The court also ordered the opposing respondents to pay the city’s legal costs. Hill-Lewis added the act would have created more red tape and slowed down service delivery and infrastructure projects.
