# The Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union is demanding accountability from Sibanye-Stillwater after 260 workers were trapped at Kloof 7 Shaft near Westonaria in Gauteng. A shaft failure derailed a skip, damaging hoisting infrastructure and leaving workers stranded over three-kilometres underground. AMCU condemned poor emergency preparedness, delayed supplies, and unsafe conditions. No injuries have been reported, however, AMCU calls for Mine Health and Safety Act amendments, citing deadly negligence and a pattern of profit-over-safety at Sibanye operations.
