Agency warns that the current levels of methane emissions from fossil fuels are very high

# The International Energy Agency is warning that methane emissions from fossil fuels remain at stubbornly high levels. According to its Global Methane Tracker 2025 report, global production of oil, gas, and coal, and limited mitigation efforts to date, have kept methane emissions from the energy sector above 120-million tonnes a year. Current methane reduction pledges by countries and companies cover 80-percent of global oil and gas production. The agency says an estimated 70-percent of yearly methane emissions from the energy sector could be avoided with existing technologies.
