Africa urged to strengthen cybersecurity as digital economy grows

# Mastercard is calling for stronger cybersecurity across Africa as digital payments and online shopping continue to grow. According to the Mastercard report, Africa’s digital payments economy could reach 24.8-trillion-rand by 2030. However, cyberattacks increased by more than 421-percent between 2016 and 2025. Mastercard’s Shabir Ahmed says governments and businesses must work together to protect consumers and companies. The report also highlights a shortage of cybersecurity skills, urging investment in training, security infrastructure and cross-border cooperation.
