Grain industry threatens legal action over wheat tariff delays

# Grain South Africa and South African Cereals and Oilseeds Trade Association have taken legal steps over delays in implementing revised wheat import tariffs. The industry bodies say they have waited nearly two years for the government to finalise changes aimed at protecting local wheat producers from subsidised global imports. Lawyers have given authorities until 1 June to provide a progress report. Grain SA warns that continued delays threaten food security, rural jobs and the sustainability of South Africa’s wheat industry amid rising production costs.
