# The African Refiners and Distributors Association says secure energy supply chains are critical for Africa’s industrialisation. Speaking at the association’s 2026 conference in Cape Town, executive secretary Anibor Kragha warned that despite exporting crude oil, Africa still imports most of its refined fuel. Kragha stressed the need for more refineries, storage and downstream infrastructure. Meanwhile, the African Petroleum Producers Organisation says the continent loses billions annually due to this imbalance, calling for expanded refining capacity and investment to boost jobs, and energy security.
