# The United Nations says it is working closely with Pakistani authorities to rapidly assess the humanitarian impact of the recent floods, identify needs, and address gaps in the response to the disaster. The floods in northern Pakistan have claimed over 400 lives. The UN says this disaster, caused by a severe monsoon exacerbated by climate change, has affected some 1.5-million people and left hundreds of thousands in need of humanitarian aid. On Wednesday, authorities in the Punjab province issued a new flood alert, with nearly 300-thousand people evacuated.
